Answer to yesterday's prayer...

In anticipation I slipped my Bible out of the drawer beside my bed this morning to find answered prayer waiting for me in the first chapter of John.  Two books and a pastor recently have felt it necessary to remind the reader of the awe we should have before the Creator we serve.  God reminded me today...

Verse 1&2:
In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.

I used to think this was just confusing.  To think that God and Jesus, Father and Son, could be in existence at the same time and in the same place since the beginning.  Now I see that I serve a God who is beyond my understanding yet has chosen to call me by name and allow me to walk with him.

Verse 3: Through him all things were made.  Without him nothing was made that has been made.

Francis Chan in Crazy Love says:
"Have you ever thought about how diverse and creative God is?  He didn't have to make hundreds of different kinds of bananas, but He did.  He didn't have to put 3,000 different species of trees within one square mile in the Amazon jungle, but He did.  God didn't have to create so many kinds of laughter..."
He also mentions that a caterpillar has 228 separate and distinct muscles in it's head, the average elm tree has 6 million leaves, plants defy gravity by drawing water up through their stem, plants take in poison and release health for us...

Some say it's accidental...

Verse 4: In him was life.  His life was the light of men.

Verse 10&14: He was in the world.  The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

That caused my mind to pause today.  This God of wonder came to a shabby and broken world from Heaven!  He was here.  Walking the dusty roads, looking at how his own creation has forgotten him, ignored him, detested him, rebelled.  And we can still be his children because...

Verse 12: He gave the right to become children of God to those who receive him.

Verse 16: From the fullness of his grace we have received one blessing after another.

And how many times have I complained?  Do I recognize one blessing after another?  How many have I missed?!

Verse 27: The thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.

This dirty job of a slave is one I am not worthy for because of the cleanliness of the Man.

Verse 29: The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!

Verse 39: "Come," he replied, "and follow me."

He lets us do that?  Even if we aren't worthy to touch his dusty feet we can walk with him?  Eat with him?  Rest with him?  Be loved by him?  Offer him the meager love we do have?

Lord, may I remain in wonder at who you are.  To be grateful to serve a God so amazing I can't even understand him fully, but can still know him and walk with him daily.  May my heart and home and wherever we go be a place of worship.  A place to remember you.
And may your Spirit in me overflow with living water that springs up into eternal life.  Thank you that my time with you this morning has not been out of habit, but out of hunger to meet with you, hear your voice, know your presence.
