Holy As He Is Holy...

Does anyone else look at this and wonder, "How in this crazy worldly world and in my humanness am I supposed to do that?!"

1 Peter 1:15 "...but as he who has called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct..."

That passage has always created a heap of misunderstanding in me.  God expects me to be holy as he is?  Seriously?  He knows I am human and that my nature is sinful.  That it's been sinful and frankly will continue to be, but somehow I keep missing the same key when I read about God's expectations for me, for all of us who follow him...

JESUS.  He is my savior.  My Lord.  But the fullness of what that means seems to escape me often.

Oswald Chambers says this:
"...if all Jesus Christ can do is tell me that I must be holy, His teaching only causes me to despair."  Amen Oswald!  How can I ever live up to that?

" But if Jesus Christ is truly a regenerator, someone who can put His own heredity of holiness into me, then I can begin to see what He means when He says that I have to be holy.  Redemption means that Jesus Christ can put into anyone the hereditary nature that was in Himself, and all the standards He gives us are based on that nature-His teaching is meant to be applied to the life which He puts within us...The moral miracle of redemption is that God can put a new nature into me through which I can live a totally new life...And redemption means that I can be delivered from the heredity of sin, and that through Jesus Christ I can receive a pure and spotless heredity, namely, the Holy Spirit."
My Utmost for His Highest

No, I can't do it.  But Jesus is in me and He can.  His spirit can embolden me to live this way.  And when he leads me I just need to be able to say yes.

Lord, help me say YES!
