Proverbs 14:14 "The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways, and a good man will be filled with the fruit of His ways."
I've been a backslider in heart. Doing what I wanted when I wanted even thought I professed to be a follower of Christ. Even just thinking about going my own way.
And where does it always lead? Emptiness. Felling guilty. Feeling lonely. Feeling angry. And having no protection against the fiery darts of the enemy. When you are your own shield of faith it's hard to fend off the darts because the only thing you have to block them with is your own skin.
The fruit that is plentiful in one truly following Christ will be love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).
In order to follow Him I need to remember that armor. To put it on daily. Don't leave home, or enter home without it because the enemy is at work EVERYWHERE.
"Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for you feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God..."
Lord, remind me to wear Your armor every day, that I may be filled by the fruit that comes from choosing to follow You...
