From Pit to Purpose

Genesis 37:24 "Then they took him and cast him into a pit.  And the pit was empty; there was no water in it."  One of the definitions for this word "empty" in Hebrew is "worthless".  The pit is worthless because there is no water in it.  What good is a gaping empty hole?

How full it is for those who believe in a sovereign God!

That pit was empty and so began the journey of a man who exemplifies obedience still.  From pit to prosperity.  Joseph went into the empty pit and came out full of God.  He could read dreams.  He gained favor of those he was enslaved to.  He became second only to the king.  And it all began in a pit.  What would have happened in Egypt if the pit that swallowed Joseph and been full of its ordinary purpose?  If he hadn't...

been sold into slavery
been wrongly imprisoned
interpreted dreams by God's grace
had mercy on those who sold him...

Lord, help me remember, when I am in a worthless pit, you redeem it for good.  What was worthless will have great value in your perfect time.
